“Innovative Nitriding Technology”
FYKK’s BPN (Bipolar pulse
Plasma Nitriding) process has several technologies that other companies do not offer in the field of mold nitriding. We would like to introduce this excellent processing technology to our overseas customers.

Here is a basic overview of BPN processing

Improved surface hardness

BPN significantly increases the surface hardness of metal parts, improving their wear resistance. This is very important for parts that must withstand heavy loads and friction.

Improved fatigue strength

The process introduces compressive stresses in the surface layer, improving the fatigue strength of the treated parts. This is especially beneficial for parts that are under cyclic loading conditions.

Reduced distortion

BPN operates at a lower temperature compared to other hardening processes, minimizing distortion of the treated parts. This means that parts are often nitrided in their final machined state, eliminating the need for additional machining steps.

Precision and control

Plasma nitriding like BPN allows precise control of the depth and composition of the nitrided layer, so it can be tailored to specific applications. This is due to the controlled environment of the plasma nitriding system.

Environmental Benefits

BPN is a more environmentally friendly process technology than salt bath nitriding and gas nitriding because it does not use potentially toxic salts or gases and has a low carbon dioxide footprint.

Cost-Efficiency

BPN’s high processing precision reduces the need for post-processing operations. The reduction in machining steps is a large part of the cost-efficiency of the overall process.

By adopting BPN, you can take advantage of these benefits and improve performance and lifespan. For more information about the BPN process, please contact us directly or email us your materials.

BPN Nitriding technology offers several distinct advantages

Less distortion

BPN operates at lower temperatures (typically below 400°C) compared to many other nitriding processes. This minimizes thermal distortion of the part during processing, allowing parts with complex shapes and close to final dimensions to be processed without significant post-processing adjustments.

Superior surface finish

As the name suggests, “bright nitriding” produces a bright, clean, and aesthetically pleasing surface finish. This is particularly advantageous for parts where appearance is important without an additional polishing step.

Corrosion resistance

When applied especially to stainless steels, it significantly increases the durability of stainless steels without compromising performance. This BPN process is divided into multiple stages, so please contact us in advance if you are considering BPN processing of stainless steels.

Case depth precision

BPN allows precise control of the depth of the nitrided layer, which is important to tailor properties to specific applications and prevent under- or over-nitriding.

Clean Process

As a plasma-based process, BPN does not require the use of toxic chemicals or the production of harmful by-products, making it a more environmentally friendly option than methods such as salt bath nitriding.

Selective Processing

FY Masking technology allows you to selectively nitride only certain areas of a part, providing greater design flexibility. Masking can be used on any steel in any shape or process without bleeding or burning. Masking can also be used on etched or lapped surfaces.

These advantages make BPN particularly suitable for precision mold industries such as automotive, medical, and food, where product life, surface quality, and dimensional accuracy are important. The choice of nitriding technology is ultimately determined by the specific requirements of the application, including material type, part geometry, use, and environmental considerations.

BPN nitriding is a processing technology with unique advantages, including hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and beautiful finish. It is particularly well suited for mold applications, and has been adopted by many Japanese customers due to its high precision, mirror finish, masking specifications, etc.
